Landor Race Meeting

landor

The race course on Landor station near Mt Augustus Western Australia which has a small population consisting of kangaroos and bungarras was transferred once again into a bustling community of race goers, caravans, horse floats and gamblers. The event hosted by the Eastern Gascoyne Race Club, now in its 90th year, the 4 day event included the traditional Calcutta, Gymkhana, barrel races along with a host of action packed 800 – 1800 metre horse racing in red dust culminating with the Landor Cup.

Evening activities included music and dancing, the outback ball, as well as two up and a host of gambling tables within the bar area. With a record crowd of 900, a team of 6 set off for the long journey to Landor to conduct the ATS organized SAS Trust fund raiser. Rotating between security at the bar area and cooking in the traditional roustabout bunk house with its traditional 1927 metters number 12 wood stove was a service much appreciated by all patrons at the event. Besides burgers, hot dogs, pies, sausage rolls and soft drinks the team cooked a staggering 165 kilos of hot chips over 3 days.

The Trust what it stands for and its cause has been well received by these people who inhabit the stations, farms and towns of the outback, and like always have requested our return to again provide this vital service for the 2012 event.
